No wonder women don’t want to come forward with that sort of response. Terrible.

Right?? People love to ask “why didn’t you come forward sooner?” and it’s like well, because i was already traumatized enough. Thank you for your comment!

I reported abusive behaviour by one FO who is now a captain, not SM but a close friend of his. I got no response from American Airlines. I followed it up and was told well do you really want to take this further as we will have to get so and so involved, and the upper hierarchy, and this whole process could drag on for months…another way of saying it, it was too much trouble and would hurt my career so don’t bother.🙄🙄

How brave of you to report it, and follow up, knowing you would get on their radar and probably get no support. I'm sorry you had to deal with any of that. If you look at the stories on my original Medium page (if you haven't already), you'll see a long list of comments from FAs, some of whom discuss other pilots they say have been abusive. Times are changing, though, and more women are speaking up and more people are backing them up, and I truly believe it's going to get better. I know that doesn't help so many who were abused, ignored and retaliated against in the past, but it's something...i really do feel a change coming as more of these cases are brought to light.

They make it impossible and they all cover for each other. HR is not your friend.

Definitely not. They’re there to protect the company, not the employee. I wish all the AA victims would band together now that there is a real legal infrastructure for this, as in the early 2000s there wasn’t. They have a clear case that the airline knew it was (is) happening early on & the next women never would have been assaulted if the company had taken action.

Further to what I said, I know you said it jokingly but Sara you’re not the problem. Initially I too thought Molin was a decent person encouraging my love of flying.

You’re very kind to say that. I’m sorry you had to have experience with him…I can only guess how that went. I know he led two (or three) separate lives and it was impossible for either side to understand what was going on with the other. He had a yacht for teens named after him for goodness sake. He was profoundly disturbed. For me it’s the journalism profession (the male writers in particular) that let these women down, and I want to be sure I’m not a part of that. I waited nearly a year and spoke directly to his rape victims before naming him myself, though of course they were telling their stories online, thankfully. I’m confident now that he was a serial rapist and I believe women.

I reported him to a senior flight attendant who I thought would be sympathetic to my situation. How young and naive I was! Instead of helping me she told him everything I said. He didn’t confront me, but got one of his friends, who was a captain to give me a stern lecture. He said, to sum up, if I wanted a job anywhere in the aviation industry I would keep my mouth shut.

Just...wow. It sounds like a horror movie. You think you're running to a safe space, and then not only do they not help or support you, they throw you to the wolves. I'm so sorry you experienced that.

I contacted a journalist a few years ago who told me to email him with details of Molin’s behaviour. I never heard back. He wrote a story defending Molin’s piloting skills. 264 people are dead, including whole families, children and parents, yet all we hear about is Molin the brave courageous pilot.

I can guess who that was. At least that is beginning to change. If you google his name now, my stories--with testimony from so many of his victims--come up first in search results. Thank you for trying with that journalist. Email me anytime if you'd like to share your story here. I have many subscribers now and am continuing to do what I can so the narrative can continue to change to better reflect the truth.

She was relentless. I've never met anyone who speaks and acts like that, like properly unhinged. But she's gone, finally, and it's very freeing. Normally I can't post anything about anything anywhere without her creating a new account to abuse me and other rape victims. Even when my dog died I had to hear from her. I never wrote about her, I don't know her, but she became obsessed. I am absolutely convinced she signed an NDA with American Airlines after I contacted them about her behavior and her very public revelations about having a relationship in their workplace with their 33-year-old FO while she was underage, though I have only anecdotal evidence for that, and American hasn't responded to me. But the fact you can write a comment here and she's still not here to start abusing you and me tells me something big happened.

By in their workplace do you mean on a plane? I’m well acquainted with Molin’s behaviour, but in that case there would have to be a captain and others who covered for Molin at the time?

Expand full comment

On the plane, in the crew rest area on long-haul, and in hotels on layovers. A lot of people covered for him and enabled him. Those who tried to speak up (female flight attendants) were ignored, intimidated and/or told to shut up. To learn more, I would start by going through stories on my Substack and read the ones with lots of comments. Then, check my Medium page and check the stories with the most comments, and you'll see testimony about all of this from lots of people who had to work with him.

It was the most bizarre year. I still can't believe she's not here abusing all of us in these comments. I literally don't even know who this woman is other than the stories she's alluded to in her many stalking messages. She came out of the woodwork and became utterly obsessed, I wouldn't wish a cyberstalker on anyone.

What does she mean by Sten and her have an army of supporters? An army of supporters for what?

Good question. She said many nonsensical and delusional things, I never saw anything like it. She did spend a lot of time trying to intimidate victims from coming forward so I’m sure there were a lot of idle threats to try to scare them (us) somehow

American are aware of so much awful behaviour by their employees and turn a blind eye.

that's what I keep hearing. and when enough people speak up, I'm told they pay them off (not big amounts) to sign stringent nondisclosure agreements for life. they are allegedly trying to squelch the sten molin story. (American has not responded to my requests for comment to confirm or deny this).

i don't really know anything about her beyond what she wrote all over my social pages but I think she worked for them as a teenager in some sort of "summer internship" type of work-study program. Pretty sure she doesn't work for them now but since she once did, they *can* still offer her a settlement that would require her signing a stringent nondisclosure agreement so she can never talk about the fact he raped an underage girl on their watch again. Honestly the fact she's still not harassing and threatening me this week makes me more and more sure every day. She could never help herself before.

I'm sorry you were subjected to that. Maybe you saw over at Medium some women posted excerpts of his obscene stalker emails to them, too (and maybe some on Substack also, I'd have to go back and check). CZL whoever she is wasn't bothered. One of the most cruel things she ever did was dip into his victims' tweets and comments and call them lying sl-uts. Doing that to me is one thing, but she didn't care which trauma survivors she hurt or how she made herself look. It was such a strange year.

I don’t understand how anyone could defend Sten Molin? Like open your eyes. He came at me with crude comments, and the shoving into walls and corners if he would walk past, the knocking on doors late at night. It was all very calculated to put fear into you. Just wake up to all those defending him.

he had two very separate lives. He took great care to see those two worlds never collided. If you knew him as the single, "erudite" (not my word) pilot for a major airline who was respectful, fun and intelligent, you would have an extremely hard time believing he was a serial rapist, harasser, bully, predator. But yeah. You'll read comments here and on my Medium page that his male pilot pals were also doing it, and they all defended and protected each other, and the airline enabled it to continue. His victims deserved so much better. I'm sorry you had to deal with him, and that he did that to you. I'm still waiting to hear about final information about the flight attendant documentary, but if you're interested in possibly being in it to talk about what he did, feel free to email me privately any time.
