Thankyou for highlighting the groups Sara. Two pilots raping women at the moment. That is sickening. What in sweet Jesus name is going on? Please expose them.

A note on the reddit group. It is hard to post the really awful stuff Molin sent and also his worst actions because the group keeps getting flagged and posts taken down. I know some of you reading this sent photos and letters that can’t be posted or in some cases were posted and unfortunately removed. I just want you to know WE didn’t remove them. Reddit did.

Also we want to get together a “don’t fly with this guy” list but that will be confidential as apparently there are defamation issues involved.

Another great article Sara. I am a little rattled right now reading that there are two offenders just like Sten Molin out there on the loose, doing to others what Molin did to do many of us.

God bless you all and fly safe. Remember always be a girls girl and stick with your crew. We have each other’s backs and that is what counts.

That's really outrageous they take your stuff down considering the diabolical right-wing racism & incel activity Reddit happily allows. Shame. I think that list is a MUCH needed document that could change your industry--BUT you're right. Look to Moira Donegan as a cautionary tale. She thought she was doing something confidential, too, just for her fellow alleged victims, but it spiraled and she paid a high price. I do wonder how Aliza Shatzman, who I wrote about last, is handling her database for judges and clerkships without risking defamation. How do you say, "my judge was abusive, stay away from him," and avoid any hint of defamation? To be fair, I have yet to do my homework on exactly how she's doing that, so I probably should...

A note to all of you...I'm working on the book and am very interested--if this is not too triggering--in painting a picture of where his victims were when they heard about 587 and what you went through and what you did next. i cannot imagine how many complex and intense reactions and feelings you must have had? I'd love to hear from you. No names needed. Either here or metooairlines at proton.me

Union strikes financially crippled Eastern. Union strikes also put a strain on American at one time. Sten Molin was anti union. Cecil Ewell was anti union. Join the dots.

it seems Ewell was the reason Molin was protected all those years. I love your crash analysis. I don't know why people still argue that he really wasn't in his right mind--even if you ONLY take into consideration all the yawning and singing on the transcript. It seems objectively impossible to dispute he didn't act normally?

Sara,

I found out about the crash via a co worker who called me and said “they think it’s another terrorist attack”. It was soon after this we found out it wasn’t. It was super scary initially because I was living near JFK at the time and thought we were under attack. I thought bombs were going to start falling from the sky. I can be a little over dramatic.

So I knew the Route was one that SM regularly flew, but I honestly didn’t give him a first thought. After all the initial drama of worrying about terrorists I felt terribly for the passengers and their families and I wondered who the crew was. Then I learnt it was Ed States, who was a lovely man. And him. I knew immediately at that very moment that he had done something to take down that plane. After 9/11 Ed was preparing his family for the worst. His wife was in the military (airforce?) and he thought she might be called up for active duty. He was worried about who would care for his young sons. Some of the other pilots who were former military or reservists also worried they might be called for active duty. The mood at American was pretty somber in the days after 9/11. The attacks put a financial strain on the company and some of the less senior staff lost their jobs as the industry suffered. There was a huge downturn in people wanting to travel, understandably. Oh, I should mention that the ONLY person in a good mood after 9/11 was Sten Molin. He didn’t care one bit. He even joked about it.

“Glad I didn’t invest in that City apartment ha ha”. There is gallows humour and then there is just being inappropriate and heartless.

As a former Top Gun academy graduate Naval Aviator you’d think he would be worried about being called to active duty. He wasn’t. Funny that.

Is there anything else I can add here?

Thanks Sara.

Thank you Isla. Just when I thought i couldn’t hear any more disgusting things about him and bam, it just keeps coming. I don’t know if you’re up for it but another piece of the puzzle for those trying to understand the fallout of all this would be to hear a bit about how his living victims felt after the initial shock. Relief he’d never harm you again but agony he’d never be called to task for the things he did to you? I imagine there were a lot of mixed reactions and it was at least slightly different for everyone.

I did not feel happy one bit that he was dead. I just felt horrible for his victims on that flight. Also a tremendous sense of guilt and I don’t know why. I felt maybe I should have been nicer to him or somehow smoothed things over with him or just handled the situation better. I felt maybe if I hadn’t said or done this or that maybe things would have been different. But mostly I was just really sad for everyone who lost their lives. Plus American is like one big family (not management but pilots and FAs ground crew etc) it was like a death in the family after 9/11. Speaking now yeah I wish he had been held accountable for his crimes.

“Catnip for predators”………yes that is a great description. Definitely a firmly established hierarchy and that’s exactly right as well. He did compartmentalise his life didn’t he!?

Who is the woman who willingly had a relationship with him? Is that this author or the Australian girl?

I heard from some girlfriends back in 2021/early 2022who had no idea he was seeing (or abusing) others. One was in a close "secret" relationship with him when he was publicly dating FA Diane Mascia (RIP) around 1997. He and Diane broke up that year, and soon after, he needed a non-aviation date to take to the wedding where his URI college buddies would be (i.e. NOT Annapolis, lol), and my close friend at the time set us up.

Yep. And the other woman (young, of course) had no idea about Diane and was heartbroken as she came to terms with it. As we always say now, his damage was truly incalculable
